The church of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul in Blois was built from the old college chapel in the city, which had been entrusted to the Jesuits in 1622 by Louis XIII. The church plans were made by Father Etienne Martellange and Brother Charles Turmel, according to the architectural principles enacted by the Council of Trent. It fits well into the European mainstream Counter-Reformation Catholic churches like the Saint Paul-Saint Louis church in Paris. Construction progressed slowly until the intervention of Gaston d’Orleans, whose initials and those of his daughter (Anne-Marie) are plotted on the façade. The church contains a remarkable altarpiece carved in 1670 by Gaspard Imbert.
