The Holocaust memorial consists of about 2,700 steles of variable heights in a field of 19,000 square meters and is situated in the centre of Berlin, immediately south of the building site around Pariser Platz. It is supposed to remind of the six million Jews killed during the Third Reich.
In addition to the stele field, there are about 40 trees along Ebertstrasse, which lead to Tiergarten. The subterranean “place of information” houses an exhibition, which gives additional information concerning the victims and thus tries to personalize the memory.
